Jolie´s first public appearance after breast surgery
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have appeared together at the premiere of Pitt’s new movie, the zombie thriller "World War Z". This is Jolie’s first public appearance since announcing last month that she had undergone a double mastectomy.
The star couple arrived together at the world premiere of the big-budget film, which stars Pitt as a United Nations employee battling to save the world from a zombie apocalypse.
Jolie says she is very happy that the announcement, that she had undergone breast surgery, has ignited a heated discussion about women’s health.
"I feel great...just to see the discussion about women’s health expanded, and that means the world to me. After losing my mum to these issues I’m very grateful for it and I’ve been very moved by the kind of support from people," Jolie said.
Jolie revealed last month that she had had a double mastectomy after discovering she had an inherited genetic mutation that put her at high risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
Pitt says he is proud of Jolie for taking the decision to have the operation. "This is the woman I’ve always known, and I have such respect for her when she’s faced with a problem, and we’ve known this was coming for some time. She takes it by the horns, she learns her options, and she make the decision," he said.
"There's just no reason for any woman to, or man for that matter, to die because of this, it's absolutely preventable. So we want to make sure it’s preventable to everyone."
Talking about his new zombie film, the actor is confident that everyone will be swept away by it. "It’s so much fun. It’s the most intense thing you’re going to see all summer. I dare anyone to disagree with me," Pitt said.
The apocalyptic horror film "World War Z" has been selected to open the 35th Moscow International Film Festival. Its general release will be on June 21st.
